Spinal mobilization is a therapeutic technique used to treat back and neck pain and stiffness. The bones in your back, called vertebrae, are surrounded by small muscles that can contract after trauma, injury, or illness. This can lead to pain, stiffness, and limited range of motion during activities of daily living.
Mobilizing the spine gently stretches the muscles between the vertebrae, temporarily relieving pain and promoting healing. A physical therapist slowly and gently stretches each vertebra through a series of controlled movements that relax the muscles and open the space between the vertebrae.
